Facebook to have big face-to-face unveil of its $1B data center campus in Fort Worth

Executives at Facebook Inc. (Nasdaq: FB) may have something to announce this Thursday in Fort Worth, with the grand opening of its new $1 billion data center campus — and a likely nod to the second phase that's underway on an adjacent site.

There were few details released about Thursday's event for city officials and members of the media, but the Dallas Business Journal recently got a preview of the site with some drone footage being used in the construction of the facilities.
The drone technology is being used by DPR Construction's team to merge building information modeling (BIM) software with real-time drone photo — making a three-dimensional collage that adds value to the building process, said Chris Torres, the technology integration manager at DPR Construction.

“By far, we are paving the way in using drones on site operations,” Torres told the Dallas Business Journal. “You can do underground utility coordination before you even begin digging up the permits.”
