Pharmacy group starts division HQ campus in Carrollton with plans to employ 3,000

A division of global pharmacy group firm AmerisourceBergen Corp.(NYSE: ABC) began work on its 32-acre corporate campus in Carrollton, with plans to employ upwards of 3,000 employees in the next decade.

The initial phase totaling $113 million with 300,000 square feet of space is slated to be completed in 2019.

Until then, AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group, a division of Pennsylvania-based AmerisourceBergen Corp., plans to begin hiring sought-after employees from North Texas and throughout the world to help improve the outcomes of patients served by the firm.

"This will be the headquarters for our specialty pharmaceuticals and will be the headquarters for operations throughout the United State and the world," James Frary, executive vice president and president of AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group, told the Dallas Business Journal.

"We think (North Texas) is a great marketplace for talent and that really is the heart of our business — it's the expertise and talent we bring to the specialty pharmaceutical business," Frary added. "This corporate campus will help attract and retain top talent and help us engage our associates in an exciting environment."

Frary and other company executives helped kick off the project Thursday with a groundbreaking ceremony in The Office at Austin Ranch in Carrollton.

This is the first step in the divisional corporate campus — a two-phased development — becoming a reality and giving AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group a place to relocate about 1,200 existing employees to the campus in 2019.

In the next 10 years, AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group plans to hire an additional 1,100 employees with the hopes of bringing its North Texas employee base to 3,000 associates. In all, the company has about 6,500 employees throughout the globe.
Meanwhile, AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group's parent company is a Fortune 12 company with 19,000 employees throughout the world.

With significant growth in the pharmacy group's business, Frary said a leadership team knew nearly two years ago they needed to look in North Texas for a place to grow and hired a Dallas-based JLL team to help with their site selection.

The City of Carrollton offered economic incentives to AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group for its new corporate campus and upping its employee base. Dallas-based Billingsley Co. is the project developer of the campus.

Gensler helped create a collaborative campus that marries the beauty of the outdoor space on a bluff overlooking a creek bed and a water feature with an open interior with floor-to-ceiling windows and modern, clean lines.

Frary said he "fell in love with the property," which is also easily accessible to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and in the middle of the company's widespread employee base.

"The key to us was the campus was engaging to our associates to help us attract and retain top talent," he said. "We wanted the design of the facility and amenities to help reinforce those collaborative environments.
