Allen's $91M convention center hotel slated to open in 2018

A $91 million, four-star hotel and an attached convention center is expected to get underway by the end of the month, which will make the hotel with 90,000 square feet of convention and meeting space a reality.

The convention center hotel, which will sit at the northwest corner of U.S. 75 and Bethany Drive, has been in the pipeline for years.
This will bring a much-needed convention venue to the North Texas city, said Mayor Stephen Terrell.

"The sheer size of the convention space opens the door for significant conferences and propels Allen to a whole new level as a destination for business and tourism," said Terrell, in a statement.

The 300-room hotel — which will have the Delta by Marriott Hotel flag — and convention center will have 1,000 parking spaces for guests and will be one of the largest meeting facilities in the region.

Conference attendees and hotel guests will be located within walking distance to Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm, a mixed-use development with shopping and restaurants.
The convention center and the adjacent Watters Creek amenities will provide critical amenities to corporate tenants, said Dan Bowman, executive director of the Allen Economic Development Corp.

Recently, Allen landed WatchGuard Video's rapidly expanding headquarters and an office supporting KONE elevator operations.

Altera Development is the developer behind the project, which the city of Allen, Allen Economic Development Corp. and Allen Community Development Corp. are investing in the project.

The City of Allen has earmarked $10 million in hotel occupancy tax revenue to the project and the Allen Convention & Visitors Bureau plans to relocate to the facility.
