Another high-rise is on the way on Uptown's booming McKinney Avenue.
Developers have received the go-ahead to build an 18-story apartment tower at McKinney and Boll Street. The rental project will be built on the site of the Idle Rich Pub.
"The building will have a restaurant on the ground floor and a fitness center on the second floor," said Dallas Cothrum of Masterplan Consultants, which worked with the developers to get planning approval. "All the parking is underground and there is no bar.
"The owners wanted something very residential and high-end."
Construction is scheduled to begin next year.
Idle Rich Pub owner Feargal McKinney said Wednesday that the pub "is going absolutely nowhere immediately." McKinney, who opened the pub in 2004, said the landowner has told him the earliest that development would begin on the apartment tower is early 2018.
A project of Mockingbird Venture Partners LLC and M&M Venture LLC, the 110-unit building is backed by the Carroll family, which owns the Spring Creek Barbeque restaurants.
