A developer that just completed an urban rental community in downtown Plano is eyeing a high-rise project in Dallas’ Knox Street district.
Nashville-based Southern Land Co. is seeking zoning to build a 19-story apartment tower on the west side of North Central Expressway, just south of Knox Street.
The development site at North Central and Oliver Street is currently zoned for high-rise office construction.
The building Southern Land is planning has been designed by Dallas’ GDA Architects, the same firm that did the 1400 Hi Line apartment tower in the Design District and the new 2728 Cedar Springs high-rise on Turtle Creek.
Southern Land Co. has built high-rise apartment buildings in Philadelphia and at home in Nashville.
The tower it wants to build on North Central would replace an old office building. The area just north of Cityplace is already seeing high-density apartment construction with several new projects under construction and more planned.
Southern Lane just completed the 279-unit Junction 15 apartments in downtown Plano.
And the developer is building the Lofts at Watters Creek apartments on North Central Expressway in Allen.
The company also built the Tucker Hill residential community in McKinney.
