Knox Heights will have 182 apartments and ground-floor retail space on McKinney Avenue north of Knox Street, replacing a carwash, old apartments and small homes.
Dallas’ popular Knox Street district is getting another major development.
Trammell Crow Co. and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance are teaming up to build a six-story project in the neighborhood north of downtown.
Crow’s High Street Residential will construct the project on McKinney Avenue. The Knox Heights development will include 182 apartments and 13,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
Construction will start next year.
The development site, a little more than an acre, is between McKinney and North Central Expressway. The property is now occupied by a carwash, old apartments and small homes.
“Knox Heights will replace five aging buildings with shops, restaurants and apartments that will add to the walkability and vibrancy of the neighborhood,” Crow’s Joel Behrens said in a statement.
Good, Fulton & Farrell Architects designed Knox Heights.
Crow’s project is a couple of blocks from where Lincoln Property and Sarofim Realty Advisors are building their retail and apartment project, which will include a Trader Joe’s grocery store.
It is also just around the corner from where Mill Creek Residential Trust built a 208-unit, six-story apartment building on North Central.
Crow is also working on another development on McKinney Avenue in Uptown that will include 271 apartments in a 20-story tower. It’s planned on the site of the Cafe Express at McKinney and Bowen Street.
