D-FW new home starts, sales up in second quarter
North Texas new home sales rose by 10 percent in the second quarter from a year ago.
And starts of new houses inched higher, too, according to the latest data from Residential Strategies Inc.
Builders started 5,966 Dallas-Fort Worth homes in the 3-month period ending with June. That’s 2 percent more than in second quarter 2013.
During the last 12 months, Residential Strategies has recorded 23,734 units home starts in the area – the highest level since 2008.
“The housing market remains vibrant in the D-FW area,” Residential Strategies principal Ted Wilson said in the report. “Although in recent quarters prospective buyers have had to contend with higher prices on both new and existing homes, they are still moving forward with a new home purchase.”
The median price of new houses sold in the second quarter was $271,000, Residential Strategies said.
Less than 3,000 finished vacant houses were available in the D-FW area at mid year – down slightly from a year ago.
