D-FW foreclosure filings fall by more than 40 percent for July

Dallas-Fort Worth foreclosure filings are down again for July.

The number of homes lenders have scheduled for forced sale at today’s foreclosure auctions is about 43 percent less than in July 2013, according to data from Addison-based Foreclosure Listing Service.

Foreclosure postings for 1,348 homes are on file for the 4-county area.

July’s foreclosure filing total is the lowest for North Texas in more than a decade.

The largest number of foreclosure postings was in Dallas County, 597, and Tarrant County, 492.

Denton County had the greatest decline from last July – down about 57 percent, according to Foreclosure Listing Service.

With July’s postings, total foreclosure filings in the D-FW area are about a third lower this year than in the first seven months of 2013.

And foreclosures are running at only about a quarter of what they were at the worst of the recession in 2010.

Nationwide foreclosures are now at their lowest point since 2007.

The rise in home values in many neighborhoods has enabled borrowers with troubled loans to sell or refinance properties.

And lenders have sold some houses at short sale rather than going through a foreclosure process.
