DFW among top cities ranked for small business vitality in exclusive survey

While Austin may be the unchallenged king of small business vitality, Dallas-Fort Worth does fare to badly among the 101 major U.S. markets, according to a new exclusive survey by American City Business Journals.
Austin led the survey for the fifth straight year, with a score of 12.66 on the survey’s point scale.
Dallas-Fort Worth ranked No. 13 on the list with a score of 5.82. DFW has 136,837 small businesses, according to the survey, which is 20.83 small businesses per 1,000 residents.
The study matched the nation's biggest markets against a six-part formula, ACBJ said. Austin led in three of the most important categories: Population growth, employment growth and small business growth.
ACBJ said the highest scores were awarded to areas that have prosperous local economies, have rapid expansion, and are packed with small businesses, those with 99 or few employees.
