North Carolina Grocer The Fresh Market Plans Stores Near Arboretum and in Turtle Creek Village

The Fresh Market confirmed today that it will open two stores in Dallas by late 2014 or early 2015.

The North Carolina-based chain said it’s signed two leases: 3888 Oak Lawn Ave. in the Turtle Creek Village shopping center and the intersection of Gaston and Garland Roads near White Rock Lake in the planned Arboretum Village shopping center.

Dallas Morning News real estate writer Steve Brown has reported that Fresh Market was a likely new tenant for the Turtle Creek Village location. Dallas-based Lincoln Property is the developer of both projects.

The Arboretum development is on the corner where there used to be a YMCA. The Y is temporarily across the street. Property brokers had said that Lincoln was talking with to major grocers including H-E-B and Kroger about going into the largest retail space.

This summer, Fresh Market opened its first Texas stores in Houston. It acquired four stores from Rice Epicurean and will open one more in Webster, near Houston next year.

“We are excited about our continued expansion in Texas, and in Dallas in particular” said Rob Koch, vice president of real estate for The Fresh Market. “We look forward to building on the success of our other Texas stores, and to providing customers in Dallas with the same quality products and excellent customer service.”

The company is headquartered in Greensboro, N.C. and operates 137 stores in 26 states. Management has said the chain plans to expand throughout the U.S.
